A new free pattern for the new year! The finished object post is here (obviously) and I’ve linked below to the actual pattern page, which has more pictures and design notes.

Pattern: The Prismatic Scarf

Yarn used: Manos del Uruguay Silk Blend in 3113 Wildflowers, 2 skeins (I think any smooth DK or worsted weight would work well in this pattern). This yarn was gorgeous, and a real pleasure to work with–unlike ordinary Manos wool, it’s a silk/merino blend that’s incredibly soft to the touch and evenly spun (no thick-and-thin texture like the usual stuff) and has a faint sheen and halo from the silk. I love the “Violets” colorway of this as well… mmm. One of these days, I’ll enhance my stash with some of this stuff for myself.

Needles used: US size 8/5.0 mm

Size: 5″ x 65″ before blocking, 5″ x 68″ after blocking

Started: 12/12/07

Finished: 12/16/07

Notes: I think this is the last of my Christmas gift knitting. My mom bought me the yarn in November, after I admired it at Stash with much oohing and aahing, and I turned it into a scarf for her a few weeks later. She loved it!

I’m also working on another one of these, in 100purewool.com 3-ply worsted merino, colorway “Analis,” an interesting mixture of pink and gray. This yarn is very soft indeed, and a great value, but the colors I got aren’t nearly as nice as the Manos or Malabrigo colors I’ve seen–they’re mostly very pale and washed out. The “Combinacion pastel” yarn I ordered, thinking it would be kind of close to Manos Wildflowers in color, turned out to read overwhelmingly as a light yellowy green. Caveat emptor.

Anyway, I hope you like the pattern! Let me know if you have any questions–I was having a hell of a time getting the chart to show up properly at first.
